The Princess of Wales lost track of time in Belfast.

"What is the time now? I always lose track of time," Princess Catherine asked well-wishers during a walkabout in Northern Ireland, according to Hello! Magazine. Told it was 14:21, she replied: "Afternoon!"

The exchange came during an unannounced visit by The Prince and Princess of Wales on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026. Prince William and Princess Catherine arrived in Belfast, the capital city of Northern Ireland, for a day of engagements with cross-community organisations, as listed by People. Both are 44. They were photographed braving rain as they met crowds.

On Friday the couple visited The Commons in South Belfast. The project is transforming a church on Ormeau Road into a community centre. They met staff, volunteers and local groups involved in the work.

It was the first time Princess Catherine had joined Prince William on a Homewards engagement. Homewards is the name given to the engagement programme for the visit. The day focused on organisations working across communities in Northern Ireland.

There was another light moment on the walkabout. Princess Catherine joined a video call with a well-wisher's mother and sister. "Nice to meet you. Sorry to interrupt your morning or afternoon," she said.

For the Belfast appearance on Oct. 9, Princess Catherine wore a pleated plaid skirt. Prince William wore a coat and open-collared shirt for the wet weather. The crowds stayed out despite the rain.

What makes this stand out is the informality. No speech. No stage. Just a check of the time, a laugh, and a quick hello on someone's phone.
