Ipswich score twice late to beat Fulham 2-1

Ipswich scored twice in the closing minutes to beat Fulham 2-1 at Portman Road on 10 October, The Guardian reported.
Fulham looked set to take the points after Ryan Sessegnon put them 1-0 ahead in the 55th minute. Ipswich pushed for the rest of the second half. Their pressure finally told with time running out.
Abdoul Ouattara levelled for Ipswich in the 89th minute with a 30-yard shot. It set up a frantic finish. Moments later the comeback was complete.
Captain Dara O’Shea scored the winner in the first minute of stoppage time, the extra time added on for pauses in play. He headed in Jack Clarke’s free-kick. Fulham were stunned.
O’Shea’s goal followed a key decision by Ipswich manager Gary O’Neil. He had brought Ouattara into the starting side in place of Jacob Greaves, while goalkeeper Christian Walton replaced summer signing Kjell Scherpen, BBC Sport reported before the game. Both changes paid off.
The result lifted Ipswich to ninth in the Premier League with their third win of the campaign. They now sit seven points ahead of Fulham. Fulham have only two points from six league games and remain in the relegation zone, the bottom three places that drop out of the division at the end of the season.
For Fulham manager Álvaro Arbeloa, the late defeat extended a winless start. He is still without a win after six Premier League matches. His team led for more than half an hour but left Suffolk with nothing.
It was a different outcome from their last league meeting in August 2024, when Liam Delap’s 15th-minute strike earned Ipswich a 1-1 draw with Fulham for their first point of that season, Reuters reported. Fulham had earlier beaten Ipswich 3-1 to reach the League Cup quarter-finals in November 2023, BBC Sport reported.
What makes this stand out is the speed of the swing. One long-range strike changed the noise in the ground, and one set-piece, a rehearsed dead-ball chance, decided it. For fans, this is why late games matter. Those are the nights supporters remember.
