Nicolas Cage says Amazon asked him to sign an AI waiver on Spider-Noir. He refused. He probably will not work with Amazon again.

Cage made the remarks on Saturday during a panel on the Empire Stage at New York Comic Con, according to Variety. The convention runs from 8 to 11 October at the Javits Center in New York City.

The waiver would have given permission for artificial intelligence use connected to his work on the show. Cage said he did not sign it. He did not give further detail about what the document covered.

Spider-Noir was developed for Prime Video, with Sony and Prime Video behind the series, according to Reuters. Cage plays Ben Reilly, and the series premiered worldwide on 27 May exclusively on Prime Video. It was his first leading role in a television series.

Amazon has cancelled the show after one season. That decision came despite strong viewing and awards attention. The series collected 11 Emmy nominations, the most for any Prime Video programme this year, and amassed 2.6 billion minutes viewed in its first six weeks.

Cage also used the panel to talk about what comes next. He said his next project will be a season of True Detective. He added that he wants to work with Gen-Z filmmakers and praised Kane Parsons, the director of the horror film Backrooms. That film has passed Marty Supreme as A24's highest-grossing release.

What makes this stand out is the split. Big minutes, a leading Emmy tally for the platform, and then a one-season end plus a public break over AI.
