Johnny has a return date. Ry Barrett told fans at New York Comic-Con that 'In a Violent Nature: Part 2' will open in theatres on Feb. 12, 2027, as reported by Deadline.

The announcement locks in the next step for a horror series built the slow way. The film is a slasher sequel, a horror follow-up centred on a masked killer, from Independent Film Company and Shudder, the horror-focused streaming service, according to Deadline.

Barrett is back as Johnny. His character is an undead killer in a firefighter mask, and Barrett introduced the role in the first film before returning for the second, Deadline reported.

Behind the camera, the sequel is co-directed by Nate Wilson and Chris Nash. Nash also produces alongside Peter Kuplowsky and Shannon Hanmer, with Nash the link between the original and the new film, according to Deadline.

The story stays close to the woods. Johnny continues his rampage at a summer camp in Ontario, Canada, where he crosses paths with a young, outcast camper, Deadline reported. That camp setting was first outlined when the project was presented to buyers as a story about Johnny heading into new territory, according to Variety.

The sequel has already started its festival run. It made its world premiere at Fantastic Fest, the Austin-based festival for horror, action and offbeat films, after the original broke out in the Midnight section at Sundance in 2024, the late-night slot reserved for genre titles, Deadline reported.

Before that premiere, the producers took 'In a Violent Nature 2' to the European Film Market in Berlin with Paris-based sales company Charades attached, according to Variety. The EFM is the business market held alongside the Berlin film festival, where films are sold country by country.

For fans, this means a long wait with a fixed end point. February is a quiet stretch for theatres outside awards season, and Johnny now owns a date on the 2027 calendar.
