Robert Pattinson says “The Batman Part II” is “so ambitious” and takes a sharp turn from the first film.

In an interview with Collider, Pattinson said the 2022 “The Batman” was a different take on a Batman movie and the sequel is another different take. He described the new film as “a real left turn from the first one” that still keeps elements of the feel of the original, and said he is excited to see how it turns out Variety.

The project is Matt Reeves’ follow-up to “The Batman”, the 2022 film in which Pattinson played Bruce Wayne, the wealthy Gotham figure who operates as Batman. Reeves directed that film Variety. Its brooding, detective-led tone was underlined by a score from composer Michael Giacchino Variety.

The sequel was first announced in 2022, a month after the first film opened in cinemas. Reeves finalised the script in June 2025. The road since has been slow, with long gaps between each public update.

Warner Bros. had earlier pushed the film back by a year to Oct. 2, 2026 Hollywood Reporter. That plan has since changed. The film is now set for release in theatres on Feb. 18, 2028 Variety. It is a long wait. Almost six years will separate the two chapters.

Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan will star alongside Pattinson, with Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch in supporting roles Variety. Stan had previously been reported to be in talks to join alongside Johansson as a new recruit Hollywood Reporter. No plot details have been confirmed. The cast list is the clearest public guide so far to the scale Reeves is planning.

Pattinson will not appear in “Batman: The Brave and the Bold”, a separate Batman project being developed under DC Studios co-chief James Gunn Variety. That distinction matters for anyone trying to keep track. Reeves’ films stand apart from the main DC slate, with their own Gotham and their own timeline.

For fans, this means a familiar Batman with an unfamiliar story. Pattinson is not promising more of the same. He is promising something that still feels linked, but moves sharply aside.
