Cappu Films to sell AI-rebuilt sci-fi thriller Overstake in Busan

Hong Kong-based Cappu Films has taken on worldwide sales for Overstake, a sci-fi action thriller rebuilt with generative AI, and will introduce it to buyers at Busan's Asian Contents & Film Market, Variety reported.
A sales agent sells a film's distribution rights territory by territory on behalf of its makers. Cappu Films will handle that job around the world for Overstake.
The story follows a wounded veteran with two hours to cross an industrial city and keep his ex-wife alive inside a deadly betting game. It was shot live action, with its settings then rebuilt through generative AI, according to the same report.
Overstake is written and directed by Stas Mareev. The cast lists Konstantin Adaev, Vika Tokareva, Oleg Chernov, Konstantin Sidikhin, Denis Starkov and Sergey Russkin.
Buyers in Busan will not see a finished film. The AI work is still in progress. Instead they will watch a promo plus a handful of completed sequences, Variety reported.
Mareev said the project is a chance to return to a film he had already directed and rebuild its world at a scale that was previously impossible. The production therefore mixes an existing shoot with new digital environments rather than starting from scratch.
Cappu Films describes itself as a world sales and distribution company focused on rising film-makers, genre cinema, scripted and unscripted television, and short series, according to its site, Cappu Films.
What makes this stand out is the sales pitch. For fans, this means the Busan market becomes the first test of whether buyers want a thriller that pairs a straight race-against-time plot with AI-built streets and interiors. The finished look is still to come.
