Escape the Backrooms adds three party-themed levels in December After Party update

Escape the Backrooms will add three party-themed levels in December.
The update is called After Party. Publisher Secret Mode announced it on 8 October, with details reported by Eurogamer. A specific day in December has not been given.
The reveal came with an official trailer shown during the Triple-I Initiative Fall Showcase 2026, according to IGN. The clip swaps the game's usual empty corridors for lights, music and decorations. It is a loud look for a series built on quiet dread.
After Party pairs the three levels with new skins for player characters. Decorations are part of the package as well. The team bills the release as the game's biggest content update yet.
More customisation arrives first. Free and paid cosmetics will land in October, ahead of the December update. That gives current players new outfits to wear into the new rooms.
Escape the Backrooms is a one- to four-player co-op horror game, meaning small squads explore together and try to survive. It was developed by Fancy Games and is published by Secret Mode Limited. It launched in Early Access in 2022, a release model where players buy and play a game while it is still in development, and has since been played by more than 12 million people. It now holds more than 30 levels and is available on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2.
The rules are easy to grasp. Teams use proximity voice chat, so you only hear teammates who are close to you in the game. Hostile creatures, known as entities, each hunt in a different way — and they can hear players, so staying quiet near danger matters. Everyone must reach the exit alive to escape, although teammates can no-clip, or slip through walls, into other areas of the map. Those systems are described on Steam.
What makes this stand out is the tone. The update leans into a celebratory vibe, a brief breather from the usual tension. For fans, this means more ground to cover, more ways to dress an avatar, and a clear reason to gather a full four-player squad when December arrives.
