Harry Styles pauses MSG show to name Oscar Belgal

Harry Styles paused his sold-out show at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, Oct. 10, to ask the crowd to think about Oscar Belgal.
Guitar in hand, Styles spoke just before performing “Sign of the Times,” one of the final songs in his Together, Together set. “I just want us to take a moment to think about Oscar Belgal tonight,” he said, according to Billboard.
The room went quiet. Styles continued: “I want us to just think, [to] remember, to just look after each other.” He closed with a simple request: “Please get home safely and look after each other.” He did not say “ICE” during the remarks.
Belgal is a 28-year-old man who was shot by officers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the United States federal immigration agency, while sitting in his car in the Bronx with his 5-year-old son in the back seat.
The shooting happened in the Marble Hill neighbourhood as Belgal was backing his car into a parking spot with his son inside. He was then surrounded by plainclothes immigration officers. After his vehicle started to move forward, he was shot in the neck, according to NYPD Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch. Tisch said at least one officer fired seven shots.
City police officers responded to a shots-fired report and took Belgal to hospital. He is now being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. The child is safe and in the care of a family member.
The shooting has drawn protest in New York City. Demonstrators called for the abolition of ICE after officers shot Belgal while his son was in the car, according to Al Jazeera. Federal officials said officers were carrying out a targeted enforcement operation in the Bronx at about 4:00 p.m. ET on Oct. 8, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
Styles is in the middle of a 30-night residency at Madison Square Garden. The run is scheduled from Aug. 26 to Oct. 31, 2026, and forms his only dates in the United States on the Together, Together world tour, according to MSG Entertainment.
