Digital pre-orders for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will unlock DMZ on 20 October, three days before full launch.

Infinity Ward announced the early start for the mode. It gives players who pre-order the game digitally a head start in DMZ ahead of the 23 October launch, when multiplayer becomes playable Eurogamer.

The rollout is staggered. Campaign Early Access opens on 16 October for digital pre-orders. DMZ Early Access follows on 20 October. The full game then launches on 23 October on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch 2.

DMZ is an extraction shooter, a format where players enter a map, gather gear and must reach an exit alive to keep what they collected. Call of Duty describes the Modern Warfare 4 version as featuring persistent progression and open-world combat, with player progression going to Level 70 Call of Duty.

That progression runs through the Forward Operating Base. It acts as the central hub, the command centre for DMZ deployments where players prepare, store gear and choose missions. It holds six stations: Orders, Stash and Loadout, 3D Printer, Operators, Boss Board, and Deploy.

Access is tied to specific editions and storefronts. Call of Duty said Campaign and DMZ Early Access applies to Standard Digital Edition or Vault Edition pre-orders on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, Steam and Nintendo Switch 2. The publisher groups Campaign Early Access and DMZ Early Access together under the name DMZ Deployment Bonus.

Infinity Ward has also clarified how solo play works. A Single Squad playlist seen in DMZ footage is a developer-only playlist never intended for public use. It lets the team load into a match alone to work.

Solo is possible. Solos-only is not. In the shipping game, players choose to play solo by turning off squad fill, the matchmaking option that adds other players to a squad. Even then, Infinity Ward said it is not guaranteed to be only solos in that lobby.

For fans, this means three separate dates to track. Campaign first, then DMZ, then the full multiplayer launch a week later.
