Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's DMZ Spawn Bug Ran Players Over, Then a Patch Followed

Some players spawning into Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's DMZ mode were run over by enemy vehicles within moments of arriving. Infinity Ward has since released a patch that addresses the problem.
DMZ is an extraction mode, where players gather loot and try to escape the map alive. Early access for pre-order holders opened on 20 October, according to Call of Duty's official Modern Warfare 4 site. On the game's Hajin map, players start from several random spawn points, and many of them sit on the edges of the map, far from the fighting.
One spawn point was placed in the middle of a road. Players who landed there could be hit by an enemy patrol vehicle and killed. A Reddit user was run over right after the infil cutscene, the short sequence that drops players into the map, as they gained control of their character. Another player jumped clear just in time. Early examples also showed no spawn protection against being run over at the start of a match.
The fix arrived in a new DMZ patch. The patch notes say it "Fixed some instances where enemy AI could run over players while infilling." Eurogamer reported that the road spawn was one of several issues Infinity Ward addressed in that update.
Spawning is also a matter of money in DMZ. Eurogamer's Facebook page posted that the game offers paid spawn options, including cars, tactical vehicles, trains, boats and helicopters. Those vehicles need fuel and repairs. The post said the options give wealthier players a large advantage over those who cannot afford them.
The campaign has had a warmer reception. Campaign early access opened on 16 October for players who digitally pre-ordered or pre-purchased the game, according to an official Call of Duty blog post. Players were reportedly happy with it, which made it one of the most well-received Call of Duty games on Steam at that point. One player has finished the campaign on YOLO, its hardest single-life mode, where any mistake that triggers a game over ends the run. That includes shooting a civilian, failing a jump or losing a chase.
Everyone else gets in on Friday, 23 October 2026, when the traditional multiplayer mode unlocks at full launch. The game is due on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch 2.
For players who have spent the past few days in DMZ, the road spawn is the item to watch in the next patch notes. The bug was a single spawn point, but it was enough to end a run before it started.
