Apple Original Films has released the first extended trailer for Being Heumann, the new film from Oscar-winning CODA filmmaker Siân Heder, Deadline reported on 12 October 2026.

The film tells the true story of disability-rights advocate Judy Heumann. It centres on events in 1977, when Heumann led more than 100 disabled people to take over the San Francisco Federal Building. It lasted 28 days. It was the longest occupation of a federal building in US history.

The protesters refused to leave until the government enforced Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the American law requiring federal spaces to become accessible to disabled people. The story is based on Heumann's memoir.

Ruth Madeley plays Heumann, Deadline reported. Mark Ruffalo plays the bureaucrat who stands in the protesters' way. Dylan O'Brien, Jon Beavers, Rob Delaney and Ray Fisher also star.

Being Heumann opened the 51st Toronto International Film Festival, with its world premiere screening on 10 September at Roy Thomson Hall, during a festival run from 10 to 20 September. The opening-night slot had been announced in July by Variety. The film will next close the 14th Middleburg Film Festival, which runs 15 to 18 October, according to Variety.

Apple will release the film in select theatres on 6 November before it streams on Apple TV on 13 November. The new footage follows a teaser released in September. Both are now live on Apple TV's YouTube channel as the Official Teaser and the Official Trailer.

What makes this stand out is the pairing. Heder returns after CODA with another story built around disabled community and access, this time a political occupation rather than a family drama. For audiences, this means the trailer is the first full look at how that history has been staged for the screen.
