The Voice Battles Open With Team Adam Duel on sombr's 'Homewrecker'

The Voice Battle Rounds open on Oct. 12 with two singers from Team Adam sharing one song. Cal Cook and Connor Closs perform sombr's 'Homewrecker' head to head, with coach Adam Levine to choose who stays.
Billboard shared an exclusive preview of the duel ahead of the episode Billboard. The Battle Round is the stage where two team members sing the same song and their coach keeps one singer. Both Cook and Closs reached this stage as members of Levine's team.
Cook is from Salt Lake City. Closs is from New Jersey. The pairing puts two pop-leaning male voices against each other on a current chart hit rather than a classic standard.
That song is 'Homewrecker' by sombr. It sits at No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100, the US singles chart. Sombr released it on Feb. 5 as his first new song and music video of the year Billboard.
The preview starts spare. Cook opens with the intro's falsetto ad libs, the loose high vocal lines that sit around the main melody. Closs then takes the opening verse. The two trade lines from there, staying close to the record's late-night pop shape.
The coaches in the room responded to the vocal blend. Kelly Clarkson praised Cook for shifting from high notes into chest voice, the fuller lower register, and praised Closs for his runs and tone. Riley Green said the pair sound so good together they could already be a vocal duo.
What makes this stand out is the song choice. Battle songs often look back decades. This one is still on the chart. That gives both singers a test of control and character on material many viewers will know.
For fans, this means a straight decision. Levine will name either Cook or Closs as the winner of the duel to advance to the next round. The preview does not reveal his choice. Viewers will learn the result when the episode airs.
