Ben Affleck has called the reshoots on Justice League the "low point of my career."

He made the remark on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, in an interview reported by Variety on 12 October 2026. Affleck played Batman in the 2017 film, which united DC heroes including Superman, Wonder Woman and The Flash.

The film changed directors midway through production. Warner Bros. brought in Joss Whedon after Zack Snyder paused work following the death of his daughter, according to Variety. The main shoot had finished earlier in 2017 before the new work began. Snyder later estimated that the reshoots, extra filming ordered after the main shoot has wrapped, covered about 60 pages of new material.

Affleck said he was glad Snyder later got to release his own version of the film. That version, widely known as the Snyder Cut, was a separate edit assembled from Snyder's original material and put out after an organised fan campaign. Affleck and co-star Gal Gadot had publicly joined calls for that release in November 2019, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. At the time, insiders told the Reporter that no announcement on a release was imminent.

The reshoot period was difficult behind the camera. Gadot accused Whedon of threatening behaviour toward her on set, claims which Whedon denied, as noted by Variety. Affleck has spoken bluntly about that shoot before. He described it as "the worst experience" and "awful" in interviews reported in January 2022 by IndieWire.

On the same podcast, Affleck confirmed he had turned down another large franchise job. Lucasfilm approached him about directing Star Wars: The Force Awakens, according to Variety. He said no.

What makes this stand out is how directly Affleck ties his memories to the production handover. For fans, this fills in why two very different versions of the same film exist, and why the cast themselves pushed for Snyder's edit to be realised.
