Jordan's 1998 Finals Jersey Sells for Record $14 Million

Another Michael Jordan Finals jersey just reset the market.
The Chicago Bulls road jersey Jordan wore in Game 2 of the 1998 NBA Finals, the league's championship series, sold for $14 million (£10.6 million) in a private sale through Hunt Auctions. BBC Miami real estate investor Ron Firman bought it. Hunt Auctions announced the sale on Monday.
It is the highest price ever paid for a piece of basketball memorabilia. The red road jersey is autographed by Jordan. NBA.com
The price tracks back to a big night. Jordan scored a game-high 37 points in that Game 2. Chicago went on to win the series 4-2, closing out Jordan's sixth NBA championship. He was named Finals Most Valuable Player, the award for the best player in the series, in all six of his title runs.
What makes this stand out is how quickly Jordan keeps passing himself.
His non-autographed jersey from Game 3 of the same 1998 Finals sold for $12.3 million (£9.3 million). A 2007-08 trading card featuring Jordan and Kobe Bryant brought $12.9 million (£9.8 million). His jersey from the opening game of the 1998 Finals sold at auction for over $10 million in September 2022.
For fans, this means the top of the basketball market now lives in June 1998. Three different jerseys from that one Finals have each cleared $10 million.
The broader sports record still sits elsewhere. Babe Ruth's New York Yankees jersey from the 1932 World Series, baseball's championship series, sold for $24.1 million (£18.2 million) in 2024. That game is famous for Ruth's so-called "called shot" home run.
