Greek hit The Great Chimera sells to US and Australia after record ERTFLIX run

The Great Chimera, a Greek period drama that broke streaming records at home, has been bought by broadcasters in the United States and Australia.
Deadline reported the deals in an exclusive on 13 October 2026. The sales give the six-part series, meaning a story told across six episodes, its first confirmed homes outside Greece.
In the US, Global Series Network picked up the show for Walter Presents, its streaming slot for subtitled drama from around the world. In Australia, the buyer is SBS, the public broadcaster with a long line-up of international series. Distributor Beta Film, the company selling the show abroad, closed both agreements.
The series adapts the novel of the same name by M. Karagatsis. First published in 1953 and set in the 1930s, the book is a fixture of modern Greek literature. The television version follows Marina, Greek shipowner Yannis and his brother Minas.
Fotini Peluso leads the cast as Marina. Andreas Konstantinou plays Yannis, the shipowner at the centre of the family. Dimitris Kitsos plays Minas, Yannis's brother.
The production filmed on location in Athens, including scenes at the Acropolis. Vardis Marinakis directed from scripts by Panagiotis Iosifelis. Foss Productions produced the series as a co-production, meaning several companies shared the cost and rights, with ERT, Mompracem, Boo Productions and Beta Film.
Each of the six episodes was budgeted at €1M, about $1.18M, Deadline previously reported in April. The series was made for ERT, Greece's public broadcaster. It premiered on ERTFLIX, the broadcaster's own streaming service.
On ERTFLIX, it broke viewing records in Greece. No viewing figures were detailed in the October sales report. Deadline had already tipped the show as one to watch, featuring it in its Global Breakout section earlier in 2026.
For viewers in the US and Australia, this means a complete, subtitled story will arrive ready to watch. No premiere dates were disclosed in the report. The cast and creative team are now set to reach audiences far beyond Athens.
