Hell has a new visitor.

Skincrawl Studios has shared a first glimpse of “The Divine Comedy,” a supernatural horror feature from Chilean film-maker Patricio Valladares. The reveal came as the production recently wrapped principal photography, the main block of filming with the cast, Variety reported on 13 October 2026.

The film is a contemporary reimagining of Dante Alighieri’s “Inferno.” It centres on Dante, a grieving writer who descends into the realm of the dead to bring back his deceased wife Beatrice. His guide is Virgil, a former priest.

The cast is led by Christopher Rygh, Matthew Metcalfe, Tilda Metsola and Fadhillah Othman. Valladares directs from a screenplay by Loris Curci, with the story staying close to its literary roots. Two names, Dante and Beatrice, will be familiar to many viewers. The setting is new.

The picture is a co-production between Italy’s Anxur Films and Skincrawl Limited. Alessandro Gatto produces for Anxur Films, with Corrado Camilla and Loris Curci producing for Skincrawl. That structure spreads cost and ownership across two companies in two countries, a common model for independent genre films.

Skincrawl Studios is handling worldwide sales, which means selling distribution rights territory by territory. It will present the film to international buyers at the American Film Market, the buying and selling market for independent films, and at the European Film Market held alongside the Berlin festival. The plan is to have a teaser trailer ready for AFM and to screen the film for buyers in Berlin in February, according to Variety.

Valladares is known in horror circles for “Invoking Yell,” a found-footage horror film, Variety reported in August. The new project was developed to shoot in Rome. Production has now moved from preparation into the sales phase.

What makes this stand out is the source. Dante’s journey has been staged, painted and filmed many times. A supernatural horror version aimed at the international market puts it on a different shelf.

No release date has been announced. The next steps are the markets.
