Prince William turns postman as Somerset schoolgirl sends letter to Princess Charlotte

A 10-year-old from Ilminster asked the Prince of Wales to do a dad job while on duty: carry a handwritten letter to his daughter.
The handover happened during Prince William's engagement in Ilminster, Somerset, as reported on 13 October 2026. The girl held out the envelope for Princess Charlotte, the 11-year-old daughter of the Prince and Princess of Wales. Hello! Magazine
The letter was written by hand and addressed directly to the young princess. It asked three simple, direct questions: what is her favourite colour, how old is she, and what school does she go to. The handwriting and the questions marked it out at once as child to child.
Prince William stopped to accept it. The schoolgirl shook his hand as she gave him the letter. It was a brief exchange in the middle of a busy public visit.
She had waited with her mother for about an hour to see him in the crowd. Her mother had taken her out of school for the morning to make the visit happen. An hour is a long wait for a child. It is longer when she is holding an envelope she does not want folded or lost.
The Prince and Princess of Wales later shared an image of a handwritten letter for Princess Charlotte on social media. That earlier account put the writer's age at 10. GB News
It is the kind of exchange that rarely makes the official record. Royal engagements, the public visits listed in the Court Circular, the daily list of royal duties, are usually about handshakes, short speeches and unveiling plaques. Notes passed forward in the crowd do not always get kept, let alone photographed.
For fans, this means a rare and relatable moment. A schoolgirl wrote with the directness children use with each other. No titles. No formality. Just colour, age and school.
What makes this stand out is the delivery route. Most fan mail for young royals travels through palace post rooms and private secretaries. This one went hand to hand, from one child to a father, in front of a Somerset crowd. Children ask direct questions. Adults add introductions. This note skipped the introductions.
The letter now rests with the Wales family. No reply has been made public.
