Princess Charlotte nets England shirt as Prince William plays cricket on the Mall

Princess Charlotte has a new England shirt to take back to school cricket.
It was handed to her father, Prince William, after he played a match on the Mall in front of Buckingham Palace. Cricketer Nat Sciver-Brunt made the presentation after the game. Hello! Magazine reported the gift.
The shirt is a red and blue T20 shirt for the 2026/2027 season. T20 is the short form of cricket, with each side facing 20 overs. It carries an embroidered Three Lions crest, the badge worn by England sides. The report described the colours, the season and the crest in full.
The game was called 'Cricket on the Mall'. It was played on the Mall itself, the wide ceremonial road that runs up to Buckingham Palace. For the event, the road became a cricket ground, with the palace as its backdrop. William took part with bat in hand.
He played alongside Joe Root, Harry Brook and Sciver-Brunt. Former internationals Sourav Ganguly and Brian Lara were also involved. Broadcaster Greg James completed the group of players named for the match. The list mixed current internationals, former internationals and a player from outside professional cricket.
The present was for a young player already in the game. Charlotte plays cricket for her school team at Lambrook in Berkshire. Lambrook is the school she attends in Berkshire, and cricket is one of its team sports. An England T20 shirt for a new season fits straight into that world.
She had travelled into London with her mother, Catherine, Princess of Wales. The pair used the Elizabeth Line through central London. The Elizabeth Line is the railway that runs east to west through the capital, linking Berkshire and the suburbs with the centre. It is an everyday journey, trains and platforms included.
What makes this stand out is the simplicity of the handover. One senior player to a school player, via her father, after a game on the road outside the palace. No extra ceremony. Just a shirt for the kit bag.
