Sony Puts New Team in Charge of Snoopy and Peanuts

Snoopy and Charlie Brown are under new management.
Sony Music Entertainment Japan has named Tim Erickson as chief executive of Peanuts Worldwide and Ken Ohtake as chairman, putting a new leadership team atop the business behind the long-running comic strip characters, Deadline reported.
Erickson is a promotion from within. He served as executive vice-president of brand at Peanuts Worldwide. He took that post in 2021 after earlier roles at Disney, DreamWorks and Fox, according to Variety. As chief executive, the person in charge of day-to-day running, he will lead global business operations, strategic direction and financial performance.
Ohtake comes from inside Sony. He is an executive officer of Sony Music Entertainment Japan. He is also chairman of Sony Creative Products, the group's licensing and merchandising arm in Japan.
The appointments follow a change in ownership. Sony paid $457 million to buy Canadian company WildBrain's 41% stake in Peanuts. A stake is a share of ownership. The deal gave Sony indirect ownership of 80% of Peanuts Holdings, the parent company. The family of creator Charles M. Schulz kept the remaining 20%.
Peanuts Worldwide is now a subsidiary of Sony Group. That means it is controlled by Sony. Sony Music has taken the lead in managing Peanuts Holdings, working in partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment.
The structure matters because Peanuts is more than cartoons. It is a global licensing business built around publishing, merchandise, live experiences and screen specials. A chief executive runs that machine. A chairman oversees it on behalf of the owners.
For viewers, little changes on screen for now. Apple has been the streaming home of the classic Peanuts library since 2020. Its Apple TV+ service holds the rights to Peanuts programmes and specials through 2030 after an extension. Rights here simply mean permission to show the programmes.
What makes this stand out is continuity. Erickson already knows the brand side, from lunchboxes to holiday specials. Ohtake brings knowledge of Sony's music and product business in Japan, a market where Peanuts characters have a large and loyal following.
No new shows or films were announced with the leadership news. The immediate job is steady stewardship. Keep Snoopy visible. Keep the catalogue earning. Decide what comes next.
