peermusic names Jamie Cerreta to lead US and Canada publishing

A publishing executive who first signed My Morning Jacket more than 20 years ago has signed them again, this time as the head of peermusic in the United States and Canada. Jamie Cerreta took the role in August 2025 with a brief to build the frontline roster — the active songwriters writing new material — at the nearly 100-year-old family-owned music publisher, Billboard reported.
Cerreta began in A&R, the part of the business that finds and develops talent, at Mercury, Island Def Jam and Hollywood Records. He joined Mercury Records in 1997 and moved into music publishing, the business that looks after songs and collects royalties for songwriters, with Chrysalis in 2002.
His first signing at Chrysalis was Ray LaMontagne. He went on to sign My Morning Jacket, Manchester Orchestra, St. Vincent and Bon Iver during his time there.
In 2012 he co-founded Big Deal Music. He and his co-founders sold the company in 2020 to Hipgnosis, the Merck Mercuriadis vehicle that was buying song catalogues, the collections of rights to existing songs. He had most recently served as executive vice president at Hipgnosis Songs Group before joining peermusic.
Writers at Big Deal included John Ryan, Julian Bunetta, Dan Wilson and Teddy Geiger, whose credits include Billboard Hot 100 hits for Shawn Mendes, One Direction and Taylor Swift. The Hot 100 is Billboard's weekly ranking of the most popular singles in the US.
Since joining peermusic, Cerreta has struck deals with Jim James and My Morning Jacket, Blake Mills, This Is Lorelei, Water From Your Eyes, No I.D., Rob Moose, Pavement and MJ Lenderman. The My Morning Jacket deal continues a publishing relationship between the band and Cerreta stretching back more than 20 years, Billboard reported. He has also launched a venture with POEMS, the publisher behind hits by Benson Boone and Selena Gomez.
What makes this stand out is continuity. Cerreta is not starting fresh with new writers only. He is bringing long-term signings with him.
peermusic calls itself "the global independent" on its official website. Its network covers the US and Canada, Brazil, Mexico and Latin-South America, several European markets including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Norway and the United Kingdom, plus Australia and South Korea, peermusic states.
The company organises its writers into groups including US Pop, US Latin, US Country, Canada, Sync Rep and Legacy Catalog. It also runs a Neighbouring Rights division, which collects a separate royalty paid for recordings when they are broadcast or played in public, and SyncSite, its platform for licensing songs for film, television, adverts and games.
Chief executive Mary Megan Peer said Cerreta brings deep independent publishing experience coupled with proven creative and deal-making instincts. Cerreta visited the company's Nashville office after his appointment to meet staff and writers.
