Bournemouth are prepared to sell Alex Scott in January if a big offer lands.

That is a change of course. The club started the season saying Scott would not be sold before the summer of 2027. They repeated that he was not for sale through the recent international break.

Now the position has softened. Bournemouth will sanction a January exit after talks with his representatives if a significant bid arrives, according to BBC Sport. The final call will depend in part on where Bournemouth sit in the Premier League table.

Scott is pushing to leave. The 23-year-old central midfielder has rejected two contract offers at the end of last season, with one deal on the table since late April or early May. His current contract runs until 2028, but Bournemouth remain hopeful he could still sign fresh terms.

Chelsea tested that resolve already. Bournemouth turned down an initial £60m offer rising to £64m with add-ons, extra payments linked to performance and appearances. Chelsea and Liverpool retain an interest, and Chelsea are reported to be willing to meet the asking price in January.

Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham looked at Scott over the summer but have moved on to other targets. Real Madrid have also been linked with the midfielder, according to BBC Sport.

Scott joined Bournemouth from Bristol City in 2023 for £25m. He became a regular under Andoni Iraola and played in all 11 of Bournemouth's Premier League games up to November last year, starting ten.

His rise brought England recognition. He was invited to train with the squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup, then made his first senior start on 3 October 2026 in England's 7-0 win over Croatia in the Nations League. He picked up a thigh injury in that game and is out for at least a month.

What makes this stand out is the timing. Scott is injured, out of contract in 18 months, and playing some of the best football of his young career. For fans, this means a nervous winter.

Bournemouth do not need to sell in a panic. They can wait for the right fee, weigh their league position, and keep talking about a new deal. But if a major club meets their number in January, Scott looks ready to go.
