Michael Jackson's 1993 Super Bowl halftime show is getting its own documentary on Hulu and ESPN.

Spectacle: Michael Jackson at the Super Bowl will debut in February 2027, according to Variety. The project is set for both services. That gives viewers a streaming option on Hulu and a television airing on ESPN.

The film chronicles Jackson's performance at the Rose Bowl during the 1993 Super Bowl. The halftime show is the short concert played midway through American football's championship game. His appearance that night was organised around five songs.

They were "Jam," "Billie Jean," "Black or White," "We Are the World" and "Heal the World." Five songs. One stage.

The documentary will feature never-before-seen footage of Jackson and his team preparing for the halftime show. The emphasis is on rehearsal and planning in the build-up. It draws on material that has not been shown publicly before.

Direction comes from Bao Nguyen, who also produces the film. Nguyen previously directed The Greatest Night in Pop, a documentary about "We Are the World." That charity single was recorded by a large group of American music stars in the 1980s.

Behind the camera, the credits span sport, music and film production. Jesse Sisgold, Jon Weinbach and Lauren Gaffney produced the film for Skydance Sports. John Branca produced for Optimum Productions, while Amit Dey produced for Into the Deep End Films.

The executive producers, who oversee a production and guide it to completion, are Karen Langford for Optimum Productions and Ross Ketover, Ken Rodgers, Keith Cossrow and Jessica Boddy for NFL Films. NFL Films is the film and television arm attached to the football league.

What makes this stand out is the focus on how the night was built. For viewers who know the broadcast clips, this promises the work behind them. The story here is a crew getting a short, high-pressure show ready for a very large audience.
