First images are out for The Cold Song, a six-part Swedish drama about a summer holiday that ends with a disappearance.

Fremantle is pitching the series to international buyers at Mipcom, the Cannes market where broadcasters and streamers pick up new shows. The reveal of the images and the sales launch were reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The series is directed by Mikael Marcimain. His previous directing credits include Blackwater, according to Deadline.

It is an adaptation of a novel by Norwegian author Linn Ullmann. Fremantle has described the book as a best-selling novel.

The story starts with a wealthy family on summer break. Their young nanny vanishes. Their lives fall apart after that.

At its centre are three generations of women. Their relationships are fractured. Their struggle for reconciliation drives the drama, according to earlier production details reported by Variety.

The show is produced by Christian Rank through Miso Film Sweden. Miso Film Sweden is owned by Fremantle.

It is a co-production, meaning several partners share the cost and rights. The partners are Miso Film, Swedish broadcaster SVT, Film i Väst and the public broadcasters taking part in New8, a collaboration of European public channels that jointly back drama series.

What makes this stand out for viewers is the route to the screen. Swedish drama now often travels through shared funding before it finds a home abroad. A sale at Mipcom decides where it lands next and when audiences outside Sweden can watch.
