Blizzard says WoW: Forever beta is its biggest ever as launch nears

"There has been no beta bigger than this" in Blizzard's history.
That was the assessment from Holly Longdale, executive producer of World of Warcraft, speaking at PAX Australia ahead of the full release of World of Warcraft: Forever on 4 November, as reported by Eurogamer. Longdale described the rush of players into the Forever beta — an early, unfinished version opened for testing — as "insane" and said Blizzard was "delighted" by the engagement.
The rush was instant. The team raised the server cap, the limit on how many players can be online at once, almost immediately after the beta opened.
Size brought noise. Longdale said Blizzard had to be selective about which feedback to act on. "You don't listen to the loudest people in the room," she said. Changes came from a mix of community-sourced information and data-driven research.
"You just have to accept that you're not going to make everybody happy," she added.
One change already in train concerns the Skyborne elves. Their character models are being overhauled to sit better with the retro Classic WoW style, the older, blockier look of the long-running version of the game that many players still prefer.
For fans, this means launch will not reflect every request from testing. With a record test population pulling in different directions, Blizzard is filtering for patterns backed by play data rather than volume alone.
Forever itself grew in the telling. It began from a much smaller original pitch that built up over time, according to specialist coverage published by MassivelyOP on 12 October. Longdale appeared as the Storytime keynote speaker at PAX Aus 2026, part of live keynote presentations across 9-11 October by her and Clay Stone that Blizzard had announced in advance. PCGamesN first reported the panel comments.
Blizzard has also used its WoW Weekly bulletin to put Forever classes centre stage in the run-up to launch.
