Nia Long has joined the cast of 'Get Lite', the Paramount dance drama that marks singer Teyana Taylor's first time directing a feature film, Variety reported on 14 October. The film stars Storm Reid and Ceyair Wright and is now in production in New York City.

Wright plays a talented but sheltered dance student. His character finds inspiration, love and family among performers in the New York City subways. Reid plays the girl who opens his life to new possibilities.

The casting reunites Long and Reid. The pair previously co-starred in the 2023 thriller 'Missing'. Long was recently honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Long joins a large ensemble. The line-up includes Leslie Odom, Jr., Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Jodie Turner-Smith, Asante Blackk, Woody McClain, Tylil James and Khayr Bullock, according to Variety.

Taylor is directing from a screenplay by Maurice Williams. The script is based on a spec script — a script written without a commission in the hope of a sale — by Eric Gross that appeared on the Black List in 2020, the annual survey of Hollywood's most-liked unproduced screenplays.

Reid is also producing the film. She is joined by Kenya Barris and Anni Weisband for Khalabo Ink Society, Robyn Simpson for A Seed & Wings Productions, and Bill Karesh for Offbrnd. Taylor is producing with Courtney 'Coco' Gilbert under their banner The Aunties.

Paramount has slated 'Get Lite' for a wide theatrical release on 20 Aug. 2027, Variety reported. A wide release means opening in cinemas across the country at once, rather than in a handful of cities first.
