Nia Long to receive Walk of Fame star as Michael and comedy sequel line up
Nia Long will receive her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in September 2026.
She was named to the Walk's Class of 2025 in the motion pictures category, Variety reported. The honour is a pavement star on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, given for work in film, television, music and other entertainment. It has been a long road.
Long was born in Brooklyn to a first-generation Caribbean American mother from Trinidad, according to the same interview. Her breakout role came in John Singleton's 1991 drama Boyz n the Hood. Singleton became the first Black film-maker nominated for Best Director and, at 24, the youngest ever nominated.
That early start led to three decades of steady screen work. She now takes on a famous family story. Long plays Katherine Jackson in Michael, the Antoine Fuqua-directed biopic about Michael Jackson — a film that dramatises a real life.
She is also returning to comedy with a familiar co-star. Long and Ice Cube will reunite to star in Are They Gone Yet?, Deadline reported. It is the third film in the Are We There Yet? franchise, which follows a family through chaotic trips and holidays.
The new sequel is set up at Skydance Sports, Variety reported. A sequel means a follow-up film that continues the story of an earlier hit. Details on plot and release date have not been announced.
For fans, this means a busy stretch. A Walk of Fame star honouring past work arrives in the same season as two very different screen roles, one rooted in music history and one in family comedy.
