Geordie Greep has apologised to a woman who says he kissed her while she was asleep in Vancouver, after several stops on his United States tour were cancelled.

Greep, the former frontman of Black Midi, set out his version of events in a statement posted to Instagram. The cancellations followed an anonymous accusation of sexual misconduct against him, according to Pitchfork.

The woman, who spoke under the pseudonym Laura, said she met Greep and his touring keyboardist Cameron Campbell at a bar. The group later went to another person's apartment. Paste reported that Laura is from Vancouver.

Laura told Paste she was very drunk and fell asleep on a couch. She said she woke to find Greep kissing her. She said she pushed him off and confronted him.

Campbell told Paste he was not in the room when the incident is said to have happened. He said he heard Laura's reaction and saw the immediate aftermath. He said Laura told him directly that Greep had kissed her while she was asleep.

Campbell said he left Greep's band over the incident. He said that based on what he witnessed and subsequently learned, he could not continue working with Greep.

In his statement, Greep said he had fallen asleep in an armchair and woke at around 6am. He said he saw a woman on a sofa opposite him, with three other people present. He said he believed the woman was interested in him.

Greep wrote that he kissed the woman once. She immediately responded negatively and pushed him away, he wrote, and he apologised and stepped away. He wrote that the woman told him she had been asleep, which he said he honestly had not realised. He expressed regret and apologised to her.

Greep had earlier addressed the allegations on stage during a show in Vancouver. Some audience members stayed to listen while others left for the exit, according to The Guardian.

His European tour, which is due to start on 1 November in the Netherlands, is still scheduled to take place.
