Nevermore Poe musical to open at Charing Cross in 2027

A musical about Edgar Allan Poe will open in London next summer.
Nevermore – The Imaginary Life and Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe will play at Charing Cross Theatre from 19 July to 9 October 2027, with its press night on 27 July 2027, according to the announcement WhatsOnStage. The press night is the performance invited critics attend.
The show is written, composed and directed by Jonathan Christenson. Christenson is artistic director of Catalyst Theatre, the Canadian company that originally created the piece in Edmonton. It is billed as A Musical Play.
Nevermore has played New York before. It ran Off-Broadway at New World Stages in 2015. Off-Broadway means the smaller professional houses outside the Broadway circuit. That production was produced by M. Kilburg Reedy.
It earned three Lucille Lortel Award nominations, including Outstanding Musical. The Lortels honour Off-Broadway work.
Reedy returns for the London run. He produces for MKR Entertainment Group Ltd, alongside Martin Hummel and Catalyst Theatre.
The London creative team includes Bretta Gerecke as production designer and Laura Krewski as choreographer. Wade Staples is sound effects designer and Andrew Johnson is sound designer, with orchestrations by Matthew Skopyk. Neil Rutherford is London casting director.
Casting will take place in spring 2027. The Charing Cross run is presented as a limited season, meaning a fixed run with a set closing date.
What makes this stand out is the journey. Twelve years separate the New York run and the London opening. Poe remains a familiar name to readers and theatregoers alike.
For fans, this means a wait. No cast or ticket on-sale details have been announced. Those details will follow closer to the spring casting.
