Ralph Fiennes will play Henry Cecil in Unbeaten, a film about the British horse trainer and his racehorse Frankel, Deadline reported.

The project is set as a biopic, a drama based on a real life. Nora Fingscheidt will direct from a screenplay by Bash Doran. Fingscheidt is known for directing character-led dramas. Doran writes for film and television.

Tessa Ross is producing for House Productions. Rory Aitken is producing for Escapade Pictures. Fiennes will also serve as executive producer, a senior credit that often covers creative support rather than day-to-day management.

The other executive producers are Anna Marsh, Ron Halpern and Joe Naftalin for Studiocanal, alongside Doran. Studiocanal is fully financing the film, meaning it is paying the production cost, and handling worldwide sales. Sales work is organised territory by territory.

As part of that plan, Studiocanal will release the film in cinemas in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Benelux, Australia and New Zealand, Deadline reported.

The film was developed with support from BBC Film and Access Entertainment. It is being lined up to shoot next year. Tony Rushmer, author of The Triumph of Henry Cecil: The Authorised Biography, is attached as a consultant.

For fans, this means a racing story built for the big screen. One trainer. One horse. A cast led by a familiar face.
