Crystal Lake Brings Friday the 13th Back Through Pamela Voorhees

Camp Crystal Lake reopens on 15 October, and this time the story starts with the mother.
Crystal Lake, a prequel to Friday the 13th set in the 1970s, debuts on Peacock on 15 October. All eight episodes arrive at once, meaning viewers can watch the full first season in one go, according to Peacock.
The series retells the franchise origin story through the eyes of Pam Voorhees, played by Linda Cardellini. Pam is the mother of Jason Voorhees. The season is set before the events of the first film, which was set in 1980.
That shift matters because of how the original film ended. In the 1980 Friday the 13th, the killer is revealed to be Mrs. Voorhees, played by Betsy Palmer, according to Variety. Her son Jason had drowned as a boy at Camp Crystal Lake. Jason later became the hockey mask-wearing slasher seen through most of the later films.
The franchise grew well beyond that first campfire story. After the original came 11 more films, a TV show, video games and merchandise. Peacock and A24 are backing this television return.
The series comes from Brad Caleb Kane, its creator and showrunner, the writer in charge of day-to-day creative decisions. Kane holds the same job on another horror prequel series, It: Welcome to Derry.
Longtime viewers will spot one scene fast. Episode 2 recreates the canoe scene from Friday the 13th and ties Pam directly to Jason's first appearance in the franchise, according to Peacock. It is a short sequence in the original. Here it gets room to breathe.
For fans, this means a familiar name with a different face. Season 1 does put a mask on Jason, but it is not the hockey mask, according to iHorror. That favourite horror detail arrives later in the film timeline.
Eight episodes. One mother. A camp with a history everyone thought they knew.
