Peacock has released a full trailer for “Crystal Lake,” its prequel to “Friday the 13th” led by Linda Cardellini. The series is set to premiere on the streaming service on 15 October, according to Variety. Peacock lists Season 1 in its Fall 2026 schedule as an expanded prequel series.

Cardellini plays Pamela Voorhees. The trailer places her in 1971, years before the events of the first film.

The story follows the drowning of her young son, Jason, and her revenge-fuelled descent afterwards. Peacock describes Pamela as a single mother grieving the loss of her son after he drowned, in material published on its site, according to Peacock.

That focus puts the mother at the centre. Jason becomes the loss that drives her. The trailer frames 1971 as the starting point.

The wider cast includes Callum Vinson, Nick Cordileone, Joy Suprano, Danielle Kotch and Phoenix Parnevik. William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins and Gwendolyn Sundstrom appear as series regulars.

Behind the camera, Brad Caleb Kane serves as creator, writer, showrunner and executive producer. The showrunner is the person who runs a series day to day, from scripts to production.

Executive producers include A24, Victor Miller, Marc Toberoff, Robert M. Barsamian, Robert P. Barsamian, Stuart Manashil, Tyson Bidner and Michael Lennox. Miller wrote the original “Friday the 13th” film.

That original film opened in 1980. It earned nearly US$60 million in ticket sales on a reported budget of less than US$600,000, according to Variety.

Peacock plans to release all eight episodes on Thursday, 15 October, according to Entertainment Weekly. The date falls in the run-up to Halloween. The full-season drop lets viewers watch in one go.

For viewers new to the story, this means no prior homework is needed. The series starts before the campfire legend begins, with a grieving mother in a small lakeside town.
