Xochitl Gomez, Madeleine McGraw and Jack Champion will lead Bad Influence, a horror film aimed at young adult audiences, as reported by Deadline on 15 October.

McGraw plays Isabelle. Gomez plays Kira. The two are friends on a road trip home for spring break.

The trip turns dark when they pick up Liam, a mysterious hitchhiker who is not what he seems. That setup puts three young characters in one car with nowhere to go.

The film is directed by Jason Perlman from a screenplay by Brandon Cohen, according to Deadline. It is described as a modern-day Thelma & Louise fuelled by female rage, a pitch that points to a story about two women pushed to fight back.

What makes this stand out is the pairing at its centre. Isabelle and Kira drive the story. Liam is the disruption that forces their spring-break drive off course.

The film is produced by Debbie Liebling, Joel David Moore and Zachary Burgess. Executive producers are Steven Silverstein, Cathy Raduns, Raymond Merrill, Carmelo Chimera, Syed Ali Saeed, Denis Schoenhofer, Natalie Kline and Jarod Einsohn.

Sales are handled by Capture, the company tasked with selling distribution rights to buyers around the world. That process decides where the film lands and when audiences can see it.

No release date has been announced. For now, the production has its cast, its crew and its road-trip nightmare.
