Street Fighter punches back into cinemas worldwide on 16 October 2026 with a $30 million opening weekend projected.

That forecast, reported by Variety on 14 October, arrives alongside mostly positive early reviews. The timing matters. The film is the first release under a three-year worldwide distribution deal between Paramount Pictures and Legendary Entertainment.

The live-action reboot is a Legendary Pictures and Capcom film, according to Legendary. It was directed by Kitao Sakurai, Variety reported on 15 October, and was filmed for Imax, the giant-screen format.

The story is set in 1993. Ryu and Ken Masters are estranged fighters who are thrown back into combat, Legendary says. At the centre is a tournament built as an elimination series of seven fights.

Andrew Koji plays Ryu. Noah Centineo plays Ken. Their teacher, Gouken, the sensei who trains the pair, is played by Don Lee.

The wider line-up pulls straight from the games. Callina Liang plays Chun-Li, a secret Interpol agent. David Dastmalchian plays Lord M. Bison. Joe "Roman Reigns" Anoa'i plays Akuma.

The rest of the roster keeps expanding. Andrew Schultz plays manager Dan Hibiki. Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson plays boxer Balrog. Jason Momoa plays Blanka. Orville Peck plays Vega. Cody Rhodes plays American G.I. Guile. Vidyut Jammwal plays Dhalsim.

The look mixes live action with hand-drawn work. Studio Titmouse Inc. created the 2D animated introduction and flashback segments, Variety reported.

Those flashbacks are already getting attention. Early first reactions, published by The Hollywood Reporter on 14 October, highlight the film's serious moments, crowd-pleasing fight scenes and animated flashback scenes.

For fans, this means a short wait. Capcom lists the film for worldwide release on 16 October 2026 under the title "Street Fighter / The Movie". One day out, the numbers will tell the next part of the story.
