Pence 1979 opens first flagship inside Milan restaurant

Pence 1979, the contemporary Italian clothing brand, has opened its first flagship boutique inside a working restaurant in Milan.
A flagship is the main shop that sets the standard for how a brand looks and sells. This one sits inside Salotto Orsini, the restaurant on Via San Carpoforo in the city's Brera district, according to WWD. It takes the lower floor. The dining rooms stay above.
Both businesses answer to the same owner. Pence 1979 and Salotto Orsini are held by IPO SpA, the Italian holding company with interests across fashion, design and hospitality. That shared ownership explains the shared address. Salotto Orsini already lists the space on its own website as the Pence1979 boutique.
The setting is new. The name is not. Pence 1979 was set up in 1979 by Otello Zecchin on the outskirts of Venice as a maker of men's trousers, a pantmaker in trade language. It later built a wider wardrobe around casual wear. It is known especially for denim, the sturdy cotton twill used for jeans, as noted by CiboToday.
Control of the label has changed in recent years. In 2021 the brand was acquired by IPO Fashion & Design, a division of the parent holding group. In 2024 it ended its previous manufacturing licence. A licence, in clothing, is a deal that lets an outside firm make products under a brand's name. Ending it allowed Pence 1979 to bring operations back in-house, under its own management.
Eat upstairs. Browse downstairs. Guests use the same front door on Via San Carpoforo and can move between lunch and the rails without stepping back onto the street.
What makes this stand out is the pairing. Fashion labels usually chase busy shopping streets for a first flagship. Here the clothes sit below white tablecloths. The noise is cutlery as much as hangers.
For visitors, this means the stop is simple to combine. No separate trip is needed across town. A table booking can turn into a fitting-room visit, and a shopping trip can turn into lunch.
