The O'Connells are coming back to cinemas with a title and a date. Universal Pictures will release The Mummy: Book of the Dead in cinemas on 15 October 2027, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

Brendan Fraser returns as Rick O'Connell. Rachel Weisz returns as Evie O'Connell. The pair lead an ensemble that mixes familiar co-stars with new additions, according to the trade.

John Hannah, Oded Fehr and Kevin J. O'Connor are all in the cast. They are joined by Michael Johnston and Numan Acar. The date is set. The team is set.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are directing the film, The Hollywood Reporter reported. The pair work together as part of the filmmaking collective Radio Silence, Variety has noted. David Coggeshall wrote the script.

The October 2027 slot is earlier than first planned. Universal had originally dated the fourth Mummy film for May 2028, Variety reported in February. At that stage, and again in April, the project was still being listed as yet to be titled, Variety reported.

Filming is now under way in London, according to People. Fraser was photographed on set in early October. The production shift explains the new title announcement, which gives the film its full name a year out from release.

Johnston's casting followed a longer build-up. He was first reported to be in early talks to join the fourth instalment in July, Variety reported. Fraser also discussed his training for the return during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in May, according to Variety.

For fans, this means the countdown is simple. One year to go. A finished script, directors in place, cameras rolling and a name on the poster.
