Wonka's The Golden Ticket has climbed to No. 1 in the US streaming ratings.

The Netflix competition show drew 1.08 billion minutes of viewing for Sept. 28 to Oct. 4, in its second week on release. That was up 26 per cent on its opening week, when it finished fifth overall, according to Nielsen figures reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The show is built around the world of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. It follows 12 golden ticket winners through a contest, as listed by Netflix Tudum. The voice of Wonka is an AI-generated voice modelled on Gene Wilder. In the US the series is rated TV-PG, meaning parental guidance is suggested for younger viewers.

Second among originals, meaning shows commissioned by a streamer, was Netflix's East of Eden. The limited series, meaning a drama designed to run for one season, drew 782 million minutes and placed third overall. It premiered on Oct. 1 as an adaptation of John Steinbeck's novel, so only four days counted in the week.

Apple TV's Ted Lasso followed with 750 million minutes. That was down 11 per cent from 842 million minutes the week before. The other holdovers in the top 10 originals were Neagley, Reacher, Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story and Lioness.

Toy Story 5 led the film chart with 687 million minutes. That was down about 55 per cent after it was the top title overall the previous week. The Great British Baking Show returned to the charts with 486 million minutes, a week after its latest season premiered.

Netflix keeps its own count in views, which orders the week differently. Its Tudum Top 10 report for the Sept. 28 week put East of Eden at No. 1. In that ranking, reported by Variety, Wonka's The Golden Ticket placed fourth with 4.3 million views, while East of Eden drew 6.5 million views in its first four days. A week earlier, Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story had been No. 1 on Netflix's list with 14.5 million views, ahead of Wonka's The Golden Ticket.

Nielsen's figures cover viewing on television sets in the US only. They do not include computers or mobile devices.

What makes this stand out is the second-week climb. Shows often open big and fade. This one grew.
