Battlefield 6 reverses slower Season 5 XP, calls it unintended

Battlefield 6 players started earning XP more slowly after the Season 5 update, and Battlefield Studios says that was a mistake.
The studio said the lower earn rates were unintended and linked them to backend configuration changes made with the patch. Those changes have now been reverted, according to Eurogamer.
XP, or experience points, is the score that unlocks new ranks and gear. In Battlefield 6 it drives progress for soldiers as well as for hardware such as weapons. The studio said the backend changes, in effect settings on its servers, affected earn rates across modes and for that hardware progression.
The cut was not announced. Battlefield Studios gave players no warning of any change to XP earn rates before the Season 5 patch went live. That meant the difference was felt in game first, in slower unlocks, rather than read in patch notes.
Battlefield Comms, the series account for player updates, said its team is actively monitoring telemetry to check that rates return to intended levels across all experiences. Telemetry here means live gameplay data sent back from matches. The aim, the team said, is to make sure the revert restores the intended pace everywhere players earn XP.
The fix has landed in awkward timing. The Ultimate Shortcut Kit went on sale alongside the launch of Season 5. It costs US$30 / £25 and fully levels up all classes, including gadgets and Training Paths, as well as 28 weapons and eight vehicles.
Training Paths are structured upgrade routes inside each class. Gadgets, weapons and vehicles all feed into how a soldier performs round to round. A paid bundle that completes those tracks at once is therefore a direct skip of the grind that had just become slower.
Battlefield Studios has not linked the two releases. It has described the XP reduction only as unintended. It has not detailed how the backend settings were altered, only that they have been rolled back while monitoring continues.
There was also a separate mix-up over XP Boosters, consumable items that temporarily lift how fast XP is earned. Battlefield Comms said an in-game message about XP Boosters was sent in error and has now been removed. That message predates Season 5, with the account noting the error on 18 July 2026, as reported by GameSpot.
What makes this stand out is the communication gap. Players expect patch notes to spell out what changes and by how much. When progression slows without notice, and a paid shortcut appears in the same week, questions follow quickly even if the slowdown was an error.
