Ben Jones-Bishop, 38, signs on for another year with York Knights

Ben Jones-Bishop is going around again. The 38-year-old winger has extended his contract with York Knights through to the end of next season.
York confirmed the new deal on the club website. It keeps Jones-Bishop in his second spell with the Knights after another productive year out wide, with six tries in 11 appearances in 2026, according to BBC Sport.
A winger in rugby league is the finisher. Stationed nearest the touchline, the job is to beat the last defender and ground the ball over the tryline for four points.
Head coach Mark Applegarth said he is delighted Jones-Bishop decided to play on for another year. He told the York club website that he thinks the veteran will still be very effective.
It is easy to see why York wanted to keep him. Pace fades. Know-how does not. Jones-Bishop still finds the line, and 11 appearances last season showed he can still handle the weekly collisions of professional league.
His story stretches back a long way. He started his career with Leeds Rhinos and made his senior debut against Celtic Crusaders in April 2008. He went on to win two Grand Finals with Leeds, the Super League showpiece that decides the champions.
Since then he has built a long career across the top two divisions. He played full-back and wing for Wakefield — known as the Wildcats and later Trinity during his time there — before joining York City Knights when they were a Championship side, as reported by Sky Sports.
What makes this stand out is the mileage. Eighteen seasons after that debut in 2008, Jones-Bishop is still earning a contract on merit. For fans, this means another year of experience on the edge and a steady head for younger backs to learn from.
York get continuity. Jones-Bishop gets one more season. At 38, that is worth savouring.
