Omar Sy Returns in Lupin Part 4, Sets Black Dumas Film

Omar Sy returns as Assane Diop when Netflix launches Lupin Part 4 on Oct. 23. The season picks up four years after the events of Part 3, according to Variety. It brings the thief back in a very different position.
Sy makes his debut as co-showrunner alongside Louis Leterrier, meaning the pair jointly lead creative decisions on the season. Sy said his condition for staying with Lupin was having more say. He had previously served as artistic producer on earlier instalments.
He wanted more control. That shift puts him at the centre of story and production, not just performance.
Part 4 opens with Assane behind bars. A mysterious copycat is committing elaborate heists in his name, and Assane must respond from inside.
Netflix lists the season at eight episodes and has released an official trailer ahead of the premiere, according to Netflix Tudum. Sy and Leterrier are also co-producing the season through their joint banner Carrousel Studios. Sy brought French actor Théo Christine into the cast for Part 4.
The same pairing continues on the big screen. Sy will star in Ladj Ly's Dumas: Diable Noir, translated as Black Dumas, reuniting him with Christine. The film tells the story of Thomas-Alexandre Dumas, a formerly enslaved man who became France's first Black general. It is slated for release in October 2027.
Sy said Dumas is going to generate a lot of debate and discussion. He discussed why the film will spark political debate in France in an interview with Variety. Sy lives in Los Angeles but still votes in France, and has spoken before about race and republican ideals, telling Le Quotidien that justice, equality and fraternity were lacking in France.
Away from Lupin, Sy is currently shooting Bradley Cooper's Ocean prequel alongside Margot Robbie. He also voiced support for high school student protests sweeping France and decried the authoritarian crackdown, according to Deadline.
For fans, this means two linked returns. First comes Assane the prisoner trying to reclaim his name. Then comes Dumas the general, a historical figure stepping into wider public view.
