Brazil will have to wait until 2029 for its Centre Pompidou outpost.

The wait just got longer. The new opening date for the Centre Pompidou in Paris and its Brazilian branch in Paraná was reported on 16 October 2026, two years after the first target ARTnews.

The project was first scheduled to open in 2027 The Art Newspaper. That date then slipped to 2028. The latest timetable moves it again, to 2029.

The museum is planned for Foz do Iguaçu, a city in southern Brazil. The Paraná state government has formalised a partnership to install the Centre Pompidou Paraná museum there, according to state government records Paraná State Government.

The chosen site sits at the heart of the Triple Frontier, where Brazil meets Argentina and Paraguay Centre Pompidou. An outpost — a satellite venue run in partnership with the Paris institution — puts the French collection within a short trip for visitors from all three countries. No local knowledge is needed to grasp the pitch. Three borders meet in one place.

The Brazilian delay is not the only postponement on the Pompidou map. The opening of Centre Pompidou × Jersey City in the United States has also been put back Il Sole 24 Ore. That project is a separate branch, with its own timetable and funding.

For visitors, this means a longer countdown. The plan on paper has not changed. A Paris museum opens a permanent home in South America, built with a regional government, on a border shared by three nations. Only the calendar has moved, from 2027 to 2028 and now to 2029.
