Shrek 2 is getting a video game remaster after an Xbox Store page for the project went live early.

The listing surfaced on 16 October 2026 with artwork and product details, before any formal announcement from a publisher or developer. It did not stay secret for long. Push Square reported the page after it was spotted by users browsing the store, the digital shopfront where Xbox owners buy and download games.

Aspyr, the studio named on the listing, is handling the project. The company is credited as the developer, the team responsible for preparing and testing the game for release. The page promises 4K resolution, the extra-sharp picture standard used by most new televisions and consoles, alongside an enhanced user interface. That second term covers the practical layer of a game: menus, buttons, maps and on-screen prompts, here reworked and modernised for larger, sharper screens.

Xbox posted the store page ahead of schedule, according to Kotaku. Early store listings are a familiar route for leaks in the games industry. Pages are often prepared in advance of marketing announcements, and if they become visible too soon, players can capture and share them within minutes.

The Xbox slip was not the first clue. A day earlier, a full achievement list for the remaster surfaced on Steam, the leading storefront for PC games. Achievements are the set tasks and milestones players unlock as they progress, from finishing levels to finding hidden extras, and a complete list usually means a release is already logged in store systems. That earlier leak was reported on 15 October 2026 by TheGamer.

For anyone new to the term, a remaster is a tidy-up rather than a rebuild. The levels, characters and story stay the same, but the visuals are cleaned up, the presentation is smoothed out and older menus are adjusted for current hardware. It is a way to make a game first built for an earlier generation of consoles feel comfortable on today's screens, without changing what players remember.

What makes this stand out is the source material. Shrek 2 is tied to the animated film of the same name, and film tie-in games were once a staple of console releases. A remaster brings that style of game back for players who know the films first, as well as for younger players meeting the characters through streaming and re-releases.

No release date, price or full platform list has been confirmed through the leaks so far. The listings point to an official announcement close behind, with formal details still to come from Aspyr or Xbox.
