KJ Apa Wants Cameo in Riverdale Zombie Sequel Afterlife with Archie

KJ Apa has asked Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa about a cameo in Afterlife with Archie, the zombie follow-up to Riverdale heading to Disney+.
Apa made the comments in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, as reported by Deadline. He said he is "excited" for the new series. He said he has already spoken to Aguirre-Sacasa about appearing in it.
Apa played Archie Andrews on The CW's Riverdale across its seven-season run from 2017 to 2023, according to Deadline. Aguirre-Sacasa was Riverdale's showrunner. He is also showrunning Afterlife with Archie.
Apa said it would be fun to come in for a scene even if he did not play Archie again. He does not have a role in mind. Nothing is confirmed.
Afterlife with Archie is set for a Halloween 2027 premiere on Disney+. It received a script-to-series order, meaning it is developing scripts straight toward a series without shooting a standalone pilot first, with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. TV producing.
The series is written by Aguirre-Sacasa and based on the comics by Aguirre-Sacasa and artist Francesco Francavilla. The premise centres on zombies invading Riverdale, as first laid out by The Hollywood Reporter.
For context, the original Riverdale focused on the love triangle of Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge, according to Archie Comics. By the finale, the story had moved elsewhere. Archie and Veronica were shown in a quad relationship together for a year, as listed by Variety.
For fans, this means a familiar face wants back in the frame, just not necessarily as the same character. Apa is not pitching a return as Archie. He is pitching a visit.
