Edward Said: Between Worlds Brings Writer's Life to Festivals

A new documentary about Palestinian writer and thinker Edward Said has brought his life and work to major fall film festivals.
Edward Said: Between Worlds, directed by Maiken Baird, profiles Said in his own words, according to its festival listings. Baird is a Danish-American documentary director and producer who co-directed Venus and Serena, as noted by TIFF.
The film is built entirely from archival footage. It traces Said from childhood through education to his social politicization, according to an announcement from Film at Lincoln Center.
Film at Lincoln Center lists Said as a professor, author and advocate for the Palestinian cause. The festival page for the film says it also addresses his relationship with his wife Mariam and explores the legacy of his groundbreaking works, as described by Film at Lincoln Center and TIFF.
A review in The Hollywood Reporter says the documentary examines Said's role in reframing the Palestinian struggle.
The film appears in the Toronto International Film Festival catalogue and was selected for NYFF 2026, the 64th edition of the New York Film Festival. It had its U.S. premiere at NYFF64.
Said is the subject of two documentaries addressing his life, alienation and sympathy for the Palestinian cause.
