The owners of Pathé took centre stage in Lyon as the French studio marked 130 years with a new shine on Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette.

Jérôme Seydoux and Sophie Seydoux, the owners of Pathé, are being honoured at the International Classic Film Market (MIFC) in Lyon, the market for restored and classic films that runs alongside the Lumière Film Festival, according to Variety. The tribute coincides with two birthdays. Pathé is celebrating its 130th anniversary. Its heritage arm, the Jérôme Seydoux-Pathé Fondation, is marking 20 years.

Pathé has backed the Lumière Festival since it was established in 2009. Jérôme Seydoux is president of Pathé, while Sophie Seydoux is president of the Fondation, according to the festival journal. The 18th edition of the festival runs from October 10 to October 18, 2026, in Lyon.

The headline restoration is Coppola's Marie Antoinette. Pathé is releasing a newly restored 4K version — an ultra-sharp clean-up from the original film materials — on Nov. 25. The release marks the 20th anniversary of the film, which stars Kirsten Dunst as the French queen and Jason Schwartzman as Louis XVI.

The restoration was supervised by Sony Pictures Entertainment in collaboration with American Zoetrope, Coppola's family company. A special exhibition at the Chateau de Versailles dedicated to the film was also recently announced, giving audiences a second way back into its world of wigs, cakes and court ritual.

Lyon is showing more of the Pathé vaults. The festival is presenting Louis Daquin's 1941 Nous les gosses (Portrait of Innocence) in a restored 2K version and his 1960 The Opportunists (Les Arrivistes) in restored 4K. Pathé's catalogue also includes a 4K restoration of Daquin's 1944 mountain drama Premier de Cordée (First in Line).

For fans, this means plenty of chances to see Marie Antoinette big and bright. MUBI has said the 20th anniversary 4K restoration will play in US and Canadian theatres on October 23 before streaming on MUBI in the US. The Academy Museum in Los Angeles will present the film in 4K DCP, the digital format used in cinemas, with Coppola present on Oct. 23. The Museum of the Moving Image in New York listed a screening on Oct. 16, while San Francisco's Roxie Theater lists shows on Oct. 23 and Oct. 28.
