Street Fighter has taken the top spot at the North American box office.

The Paramount Pictures release earned US$13 million from 3,575 theatres on Friday, 16 October, and is projected to reach US$31 million by Sunday, according to studio estimates reported by Variety. Domestic here means the United States and Canada. Sunday totals are studio estimates until Monday's actuals.

The film is directed by Kitao Sakurai and stars Noah Centineo and Andrew Koji as estranged fighters recruited for a tournament. It took US$4 million in previews, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. That start puts it slightly ahead of earlier trade expectations. Variety had pointed to a US$30 million opening in a forecast published on 14 October.

Second place went to an unlikely rival. You Can See Everything grossed US$5.54 million on Friday from 855 theatres and is projected to earn US$12.45 million by Sunday, according to studio estimates reported by Variety. That is well above initial opening estimates of US$7 million to US$8 million.

The A24 release is an Elizabeth Holmes documentary made by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim. It earned US$1.7 million in previews. It is playing in far fewer locations than the leaders. It is still outpacing them per theatre.

Sense and Sensibility placed third. It earned US$3.3 million on Friday from 2,545 theatres and is targeting a US$6.7 million opening weekend.

Whalefall followed in fourth. The Disney survival thriller earned US$3 million on Friday from 2,065 locations and is projected to reach US$7 million by Sunday. It is directed by Brian Duffield and stars Austin Abrams as a scuba diver swallowed by a sperm whale. The result is softer than an earlier forecast of US$10 million to US$12 million from 3,065 venues.

What makes this stand out is the spread. Four new releases sit at the top, each aimed at a different crowd.

Holdover Other Mommy added US$2.5 million on Friday. It is projected to add US$7.85 million by Sunday for a cumulative US$44.35 million in North America.
