Hurricane Trudy strengthened to a Category 2 hurricane as it moved toward Mexico's southwestern and west-central Pacific coast on Oct. 17, 2026, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center.

The center reported maximum sustained winds of 100 mph (155 km/h). Trudy was located about 205 miles (330 km) south-southeast of Cabo Corrientes and 115 miles (180 km) south-southwest of Manzanillo, moving northwest at 10 mph (17 km/h). Its center was expected to approach the Mexican coast on Oct. 17 and pass near it into Oct. 18. The Guardian

A hurricane warning was in effect from Manzanillo in Colima state to Cabo Corrientes in Jalisco. Mexico also issued a tropical storm warning for Las Islas Marias, a group of islands off the Pacific coast, and discontinued a tropical storm warning for its coast south of Lazaro Cardenas.

Forecasters expected 4 to 8 inches (10 to 20 cm) of rain through the weekend of Oct. 17-18, with isolated totals of about 15 inches (38 cm). Heavy rainfall of that kind can bring flooding and mudslides, particularly in coastal and mountainous areas.

Separately in the western Pacific, Typhoon Champi strengthened to a Category 4 storm as it moved toward Guam on Oct. 17.

Champi was about 25 miles (40 km) southeast of Guam on Saturday night local time, with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph (225 km/h), according to the U.S. National Weather Service. Guam and Rota were under a typhoon warning, while Tinian and Saipan were under a tropical storm warning and typhoon watch.

The governors of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands requested emergency disaster declarations on Oct. 16, ahead of the storm's closest approach.
