Separately, a landslide buried a village in Gansu province on July 7. The initial event entombed 33 people. As of that morning, 17 had been rescued and 16 remained missing, per Reuters reporting Reuters. Local authorities told state television they are "making every effort" to locate those still trapped while monitoring for secondary collapses—a critical concern in landslide terrain, where saturated ground remains prone to further movement after initial rescue work begins.
Xi Jinping called for "all out" rescue efforts, according to state media cited by the Guardian.
