Nineteen-year-old Aran Murphy is appearing in two HBO series at the same time.

Murphy co-stars in “Youth” and “War”, according to Variety. Both parts cast him as a troubled teenager working through his parents’ divorce. It is a busy stretch for an actor still at the start of his career.

In “Youth”, he plays Rauri, the son of Sharon Horgan’s character. In “War”, he plays Gabriel, a boy caught between his mother Carla and stepfather Morgan as their marriage breaks down. Carla is played by Sienna Miller and Morgan by Dominic West.

Gabriel arrives on screen in the Oct. 15 episode of “War”. The timing puts Murphy on two HBO shows in the same month, in similar but separate roles.

Murphy is the son of Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy and Irish visual artist Yvonne McGuinness. He has spoken about being recognised as his father’s son. “I don't even think we look that much alike, but people seem to think otherwise,” he told Variety.

What makes this run stand out is the overlap. Two productions, two families in crisis, and one young actor asked to carry the teenager’s side of the story in each.

His next project moves to film. Murphy plays one of the leads in “Klara and the Sun”, a dystopian story from director Taika Waititi, meaning a story set in a harsh future world. The film is set for release on Oct. 23. He stars alongside Jenna Ortega, according to the Irish Film and Television Network.
