Jailer 2 Hits No. 2 at Global Box Office With $31.2M

Rajinikanth's Tamil-language sequel Jailer 2 was the second-biggest film in the world over the Oct. 16-18 weekend. It took an estimated $31.2 million globally, behind Paramount's Street Fighter on $51.1 million, according to Rentrak estimates reported by Variety.
The film was directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and opened in India on Oct. 15. Its four-day extended opening in India was worth an estimated INR224 crore, or $23.5 million, as reported by Variety. A crore is ten million rupees, the standard unit for film takings in India.
That start ranks as the third-highest four-day opening on record for a Tamil-language film. It finished a fraction behind Rajinikanth's own Coolie, which took INR224.25 crore, or $23.6 million, in its four-day start.
It was close. Jailer 2 earned $7 million on Thursday in India and $6.5 million on Sunday. Tamil Nadu, Rajinikanth's home state, led the regional split with $8.4 million.
In North America, domestic meaning the United States and Canada, the film is handled by Shloka Entertainments. It earned $3.2 million from Friday to Sunday for ninth place, taking its North American total to $5.2 million, Variety reported.
The wider worldwide count is higher because it includes the Thursday opening in India. Jailer 2 grossed Rs 317.15 crore worldwide in its first three days, according to the Indian Express. That paper also places it among 2026's highest-grossing Tamil films in theatres.
Australia added to the spread. Jailer 2 opened in second place at the Australian box office with $1.42 million, reported Rolling Stone Australia.
Elsewhere on the global chart for Oct. 16-18, Sony's Resident Evil was third with $22.6 million. Universal's Other Mommy followed with $17.9 million, just ahead of Verity on $17.6 million.
What makes this stand out is the head-to-head in the record books. Two Rajinikanth releases now sit almost side by side for Tamil four-day starts, separated by less than $100,000.
