Caos Cine launches at Morelia with The Huntress pickup

Mexico has a new film distributor, and it already has its first title. Caos Cine launched at the Morelia Film Festival with the pickup of "The Huntress" for release in Mexico, Variety.
A distributor is the company that gets a film into cinemas and handles its release. Caos Cine was founded by Regina Serratos and Eduardo Diaz Cazanova.
Serratos knows that work well. She previously led distribution at Pimienta Films. Before that, she coordinated distribution at Piano from 2015 to 2020.
Diaz Cazanova also runs Peninsula Films & Entertainment. He founded that production and sales organisation with his brother Gabriel Diaz Cazanova.
"The Huntress," known in Spanish as "La Cazadora," is the debut feature from Susanne Andrews Correa. That means it is her first full-length film as a director.
It is toplined by Adriana Paz, meaning she plays the lead role. Paz starred in "Emilia Pérez," for which she shared the Best Actress prize at Cannes in 2024 with the rest of the film's female ensemble cast.
The story is based on real-life events. Paz plays Luz, a mother who sets out to kill a serial rapist to protect her 14-year-old daughter. Her targets are other young factory workers in Ciudad Juárez, and Luz acts to defend them as well.
The film was shot on location in Ciudad Juárez and Mexico City. It was produced by Mexico's Zafiro Cinema alongside the U.S.-based The Population.
Zafiro Cinema was founded in 2018 by Gabriela Maire and Edher Campos and specialises in independent features. The Population is led by producer Mynette Louie.
"The Huntress" had its Mexican premiere on Oct. 19 at Morelia, where it plays in competition. A competition slot means it is in line for jury prizes at the festival.
The 24th edition of Morelia opened on Oct. 16 and wraps on Oct. 25. Its competition section includes 96 films, according to the Morelia Film Festival.
For audiences, this means a festival premiere now has a clear path to cinemas. Caos Cine will handle the Mexican release of "The Huntress." No cinema release date has been announced.
